WOODLAND, Calif. – Following a strong weekend of competition, Air Force senior Tim Wang was named the Mountain Pacific Sports Federation Gymnast of the Week, the conference office announced this afternoon (March 21). It is the second MPSF award of the season for Wang and the Academy record-matching fifth of his career.
Wang captured three event titles and led Air Force to a dominating 407.350-382.900 victory over service academy rival Navy on Friday, March 17. In his final competition at Cadet West Gym, Wang won the floor exercise (14.050), pommel horse (14.350) and still rings (14.500), while earning a runner-up finish on the parallel bars (career-best 14.25) and a top-five finish on the high bar (13.000).
Scoring an 83.100 as the meet's lone all-arounder, Wang paced Air Force to 1-2-3-4 sweeps on both the pommel horse and still rings. The native of Riverside, Calif., won the pommel horse by one point, while posting a 0.65 margin of victory on the rings. In addition, with his 14.250 on the parallel bars, Wang moved into fifth on the program's all-time list in that event.
The Falcons return to action this weekend, when they travel to Edmonds, Wash., for the 2017 USA Gymnastics Collegiate National Championships. The two-day event, which begins with the team finals on Friday, March 24, will be held at Everett Community College.
