WOODLAND, Calif. – Air Force senior Tim Wang was named the Mountain Pacific Sports Federation Gymnast of the Week on Tuesday, March 28, following a strong weekend of competition at the USA Gymnastics Collegiate National Championships. With his third MPSF award of the season, Wang set a new program record with six career MPSF Gymnast of the Week awards.
Wang, who earned the USA Gymnastics Outstanding Senior award, captured two individual event titles and six USAG All-America awards, while leading Air Force to its eighth-straight USAG team title and a 7-0 overall weekend over the March 24-25 weekend in Everett, Washington.
During the team finals on March 24, Wang claimed his second-straight all-around title (82.900), bettering the field by more than five points. He also posted the meet's highest scores on the pommel horse (14.200), still rings (13.800) and vault (14.700), while taking second on the parallel bars (13.900) and high bar (13.300).
The following night, during the individual event finals, Wang earned his third-straight USAG title on the pommel horse. Scoring a 14.100 to claim the title by a half-point, Wang became the first Air Force gymnast to ever win three straight titles on the same event. He also earned USAG All-America honors on four other events, following top-three performances on the still rings (second, 13.850), vault (second, 14.450), parallel bars (third, 13.750) and high bar (third, 13.050).
Wang and his Air Force teammates are off from competition this weekend, as they prepare for the Mountain Pacific Sports Federation Championships in Berkeley, Calif., on Saturday, April 8.
