James Reid scored 26 points to lead five in double figures and Boise State tied a Mountain West record with 20 3-pointers while beating Air Force, 98-70, Saturday afternoon in the conference regular season finale for both schools.
The Broncos hit 10 of their first 11 field goals to race out to a 28-15 lead with 12:13 to play in the first half. Boise State led by as many as 19 points before settling for a 49-32 halftime lead. The Broncos opened the second half with a 15-5 spurt to take a 64-37 lead with 16:33 to play. BSU went on to lead by as many as 32 points on its way to the win.
Boise State hit 64.2 percent from the field, including 58.8 from three on 20-34 shooting. The Broncos assisted on 23 of 34 field goals and out-rebounded Air Force, 33-27. Nick Duncan scored 23 points while Chandler Hutchison added 12 points and five rebounds. Justinian Jessup chipped in with 11 and Alex Hobbs 10.
Air Force was led by Zach Kocur, who scored 15 points. Freshman Lavelle Scottie added a career-high 13 points. Air Force shot just 40 percent from the field, including 31.0 percent from three. The Falcons hit just 17-29 from the line and missed seven straight at one point in the first half.
"Give them credit for their preparation and execution today. They took it to us," Air Force Head Coach Dave Pilipovich said. "We had a poor performance defensively. We struggled guarding the ball and couldn't contain them. They were able to kick it to their 3-point shooting and they knocked them down. Once you get down to a team like that it's hard to catch up. The bright spot today was when we played some young guys down their stretch, their effort was good. I feel bad for our seniors to leave like this."
Air Force falls to 11-20 overall and 4-14 in the Mountain West. Boise State improved to 19-10 overall and 12-6 in the conference.
