WOODLAND, Calif. – After a stellar weekend of competition in California, Air Force senior Tim Wang was named the Mountain Pacific Sports Federation Gymnast of the Week, the conference office announced this afternoon (March 7). It is the fourth weekly MPSF award of Wang's career.
Wang captured three event titles and earned a first-place finish in the all-around on Saturday, March 4, as Air Force captured its first victory ever over California – and earned first-place team honors at the Cal Benefit Cup. The native of Riverside, Calif., won the pommel horse (14.700), still rings (14.150), vault (14.650) and all-around (84.200), while posting a career-best 14.350 to finish second on the floor exercise. With his floor score, Wang moved into second on the Academy's all-time list in that event.
Air Force, which entered the meet with a 0-40 lifetime mark against California, claimed the 403.900-395.750 victory in a triangular meet that also included SC United (289.950).
The Falcons return to action this weekend, when they travel across the country for a pair of meets. Air Force opens the weekend at Navy on Friday, March 10, for a triangular meet that includes William and Mary, before heading to Chicago on Sunday, March 12, for a dual meet with Illinois-Chicago.
