
Falcons Close Out Regular Season at UC Davis

The Air Force women's gymnastics team closes out the regular season on Friday, March 10, when it travels to California for a Mountain Pacific Sports Federation matchup against league-leading UC Davis. The Falcons, who faced the Aggies earlier this season at the Academy, will take on UC Davis at 7:00 p.m. (PT) inside The Pavilion.

UC DAVIS QUICK HITS
The Aggies used a season-high road score of 194.950 to claim its eighth-straight victory on March 4, as it defeated Sacramento State (193.475) and Seattle Pacific (191.725) in Mountain Pacific Sports Federation action. UC Davis, which is ranked No. 40 in the national rankings, currently leads the conference with a Regional Qualifying Score of 194.845 and holds the league's highest team scores on the uneven bars (48.830), balance beam (48.590) and floor exercise (48.990). Individually, Alexis Brown leads the conference on the vault (9.820) and balance beam (9.830), while Yonni Michovska is ranked first on the uneven bars (9.820).

UC Davis and Air Force faced each other at the Academy on Feb. 11, with the Aggies edging the Falcons by a narrow 194.625-194.500 margin during a triangular meet that included Seattle Pacific (190.400). Air Force's scored was its first 194-point performance in three years and the fourth-highest total of Doug Day's 11-year tenure.

AIR FORCE IN THE CONFERENCE RANKINGS
With a Regional Qualifying Score of 193.355, the Falcons are ranked fourth in the Mountain Pacific Sports Federation. Air Force is ranked among the top half of the conference on the balance beam (second, 48.435), while holding a No. 4 placement on the uneven bars (48.240) and floor exercise (48.690). Individually, Kara Witgen is ranked among the league's top six on the balance beam (second, 9.785) and all-around (fourth, 38.695), while Casey Bell is tied for fourth on the floor exercise (9.820) and Mariana Murphy is listed fifth in the all-around (38.100).
FALCONS EDGED BY SOUTHEAST MISSOURI
Kara Witgen paced the Falcons to four of the top-six scores on the balance beam, but Air Force dropped a narrow 193.800-193.775 non-conference loss to Southeast Missouri on March 5. Witgen won the event with a score of 9.850, while Riley Hill took third with a mark of 9.775. Brittney Reed and Mariana Murphy rounded out the Falcons' top-six finishers, as they placed fifth (9.700) and sixth (9.650), respectively.
WHAT'S AHEAD FOR THE FALCONS
Air Force begins postseason action next Saturday (March 18), when it travels to San Jose, Calif., for the 2017 Mountain Pacific Sports Federation Championships. The Falcons will face Alaska-Anchorage, Sacramento State, San Jose State, Seattle Pacific and UC Davis at 6:00 p.m. (PT) inside The Events Center.
