
Falcons Continue Action at MW Championships

LOGAN, Utah – The Air Force track and field team wrapped up a successful day of action at the Mountain West Outdoor Championships on Friday, May 12, accounting for eight top-three finishes, one Academy record and five other additions to the program record book.
Junior John Reynolds captured a pair of top-three finishes on Friday afternoon, placing second in the high jump (6'11½") and third in the long jump (wind-aided 24'4½"). He also impacted the Academy standings in the high jump, as he registered a clearance of 6'11½" to move into fourth on the program's all-time standings.
The Falcons earned two of the top-three distances in the hammer throw, as senior Malachi Sparling finished second with a distance of 187'10", while classmate Darby Maier took third with a mark of 184'8". Air Force also earned a third-place finish in the discus throw, as sophomore Logan Feasline registered a throw of 171'2".
Junior Andrew Milliron closed out the day with a medalist finish in the 3000-meter steeplechase, as he finished third with a time of 9:20.51.
Reynolds was one of two Falcons to score in the high jump, as sophomore Sam Hinegardner tied for fifth with a mark of 6'8", and Feasline paced the squad to a pair of scoring finishes in the discus throw, as fellow sophomore Garrett Coalson finished seventh with a mark of 161'10".
On the women's side, senior Cydnee Reese and sophomore Kathryn Tomczak earned third-place finishes in their respective events, as Reese registered a throw of 164'5" in the discus throw and Tomczak cleared 13'7¾" in the pole vault.
Senior Emily Taylor impacted the Academy standings during the finals of discus throw, as she improved her No. 8 standing on all-time standings with a throw of 151'10".
In addition to today's finals, the Falcons earned 14 qualifying spots into tomorrow's finals.
The women earned a pair of qualifying finishes in the 400-meter events. Sophomore Aryn Maxwell shattered the Academy record in the 400-meter hurdles, as she ran a 1:01.11 to finish sixth in the preliminary round. Senior Alexa Chacon also qualified in that event, as she ran the fifth-fastest time in Academy history – 1:01.80 – to finish eighth in the preliminary round. Freshman Megan Irvine won the opening round of the 400-meter run with a time of 54.24, while classmate Kelsey Owens earned an advancing spot after clocking the 10th-fastest time in program history – 56.67 – to finish eighth.
On the men's side, junior Jamiel Trimble and senior Zach Johnson qualified to the finals in a pair of events. Trimble ran a wind-aided, Championship Meet Record time of 13.66 to win the 110-meter hurdles, while also earning the top time in the 200-meter dash preliminary round with a time of 20.66. Johnson, who finished second in the 100-meter dash with a time of 10.45, also registered the program's fifth-fastest time (21.08) during a sixth-place qualifying finish in the 200-meter dash. Sophomore Micah Fontaine won his heat and finished second in the 110-meter hurdles (14.27), while freshman Terrell Bradford registered a fourth-place finish in the 100-meter dash (wind-aided 10.56). Sophomore Sedacy Walden and junior Tyler Koss finished third (47.02) and fifth (47.70), respectively, in the 400-meter dash, while junior Chip White finished third in the hurdles with a time of 52.79. Freshman Michael Rhoads and senior Matt Dorsey wrapped up the Falcons' list of qualifiers, as they finished thi8rd (1:56.21) and fourth (1:54.04), respectively, in the 800-meter run.
