
Women's Swim & Dive Breezes by Nebraska-Omaha, 149-73

The Falcons won 11 of the 12 events on the day
USAFA, Colo. – The Air Force Academy women's swimming and diving team breezed to a commanding 149-73 win over Nebraska-Omaha in a sprint dual, Monday afternoon, Oct. 15 at Cadet Natatorium. The Falcons won 11 of the 12 events in the abbreviated meet.
"The team really stepped up today for a non-traditional meet," Head Coach Colleen Murphy said. They returned from our travel meet to race very well at home and back at altitude."
The day started with a 1-2 finish in the 200 medley relay, as the team of sophomore Kylie Stronko, juniors Shayle Finnesand and Lydia Knutson, and senior Esther Min took first with a 2:00.00. In the 200 free, the Falcons claimed the top three spots, as junior Autumn Wolfgramm, and freshmen Emily Bardak and Lia Campbell went 1-2-3.
Success continued in the 200 IM, as juniors Jayden Glover and Heidi Schellin, as well as freshman Kaitlin Nats, went 1-2-3. Omaha claimed their lone race win in the 50 free, as Knutson clocked in 1/100th of a second behind in second place with a 25.01.
Then it was time for the 1 and 3-meter dives, which the Falcons in which the Falcons claimed the top three spots in both events. In the 1-meter, freshman Krystal Irwin continued her strong start to the year with a 226.80 to take first. Right behind her were junior Eve Fowler and sophomore Emily Munn, who took second and third, respectively. In the 3-meter, it was Fowler who took first with a 252.68, while fellow junior Kayla Wofford took second, and Irwin came in third.
Back at swimming, senior Esther Min had another great swim in the 100 fly, taking first with a 56.70. Her teammate, sophomore Jess Wierzbicki wound up in second with a 57.68, almost two seconds faster than the third place Maverick swimmer. In the 100 free, Wolfgramm got her second event victory with a 54.05.
In the longest event of the day, the 500 free, senior Elisabeth Brechbuhl got the top spot after a time of 5:21.56, which was also almost two second faster than the second place Omaha finisher. Event 10 was the 100 back, in which Stronko took first with a 58.34, the only swimmer to finish under one minute.
The penultimate event was the 100 breast, where Finnesand raced to the top spot with a 1:07.16. Finally in the 200 free relay the squad of Min, Wolfgramm, Knutson, and senior Jessica Chen took gold with a 1:37.52.
The Falcons are back in action this Friday, Oct. 19 for their home and Mountain West dual opener as they take on the University of Wyoming inside Cadet Natatorium. The dual, which will run alongside the men who will also take on the Cowboys, is set for a 5 p.m. start.
