Senior goalie Jennifer Hiddink needs two more saves to set the all-time MW record
The Falcons had a tough time keeping UNM's (9-5-2, 5-2-2 MW) offense at bay, as the Lobos outshot Air Force by a 28-8 margin, including 8-2 on net. Senior goalie Jennifer Hiddink tallied six saves on the night, and is now just two saves away from breaking the all-time Mountain West Conference saves record. The Wylie, Texas native has 92 on the season, and 337 for her career.
The first half was close to even in offense over the first 25 minutes, as it was 7-5 in overall shots. The rest of the first half was a different story, however, as the Lobos rattled off the next five shots to take a 12-5 advantage in that category into the half, but the score remained 0-0.
Out of the break, UNM wasted little time breaking the ice, with a 51st minute goal to make it 1-0 early in the second half. Air Force's offense could do precious little in the way of getting the equalizer, as they only tallied the three second half shots. The Lobos, meanwhile, put the final nail in the coffin in the 87th minute as a rebound off a Hiddink save found the back of the net to make it the 2-0 final tally.
Air Force remains on the left coast this Sunday, Oct. 21, for a match against San Diego State. Kickoff against the Aztecs in California is set for 1 p.m. MT.
