
Men's Swim & Dive Complete Day One of Intermountain Shootout

The Falcons lead host Colorado Mesa and trail BYU
GRAND JUNCTION, Colo. – The Air Force Academy men's swimming and diving team opened its 2018-19 regular season by completing day one of the ninth annual Intermountain Shootout, Friday evening, Oct. 5, at El Pomar Natatorium on the campus of Colorado Mesa University.
After day one, and at the conclusion of 10 events, Air Force leads the host CMU Mavericks, 121-67 while trailing the BYU Cougars, 126-62.
Air Force claimed one event win on the day, as sophomore Peter Lochmaier took first in the 1650 free with a personal best time of 16:19.28. The Falcons went 1-2 in that race, as freshman Adam Grimm placed second with a 16:41.81.
Lochmaier also had a silver finish in the 400 IM, narrowly missing out on a first place finish with a time of 4:04.32. Air Force's other second place time came in the 100 back as freshman Isaac Gwin touched in with a time of 51.17.
The Falcons had plenty of other top-five finishes across the board in a host of other events. The evening started with the 200 medley relay, which Air Force finished third and fourth in. In the 200 free, the Blue and Silver went 3-4-5, as Gwin, sophomore Vincent Vivadelli, and freshman Matthew Lattin finished in that order.
Grimm had another top-five finish, as he took fifth in the 400 IM, while junior team captains Zach Nelson and Andrew Weiss went 4-5 in the 100 breaststroke. In the first of two sprints on the night, the freshmen duo of Lattin and Corey Shepard finished fourth and fifth, respectively in the 50 free. Also placing in the top five in the 100 back was junior Cole McAnany, who took fourth overall.
On the diving board, the Falcons competed in the 1-meter today. Sophomore Cole Armagost was the top finisher, taking third with a 275.15. Fellow sophomore Jack Zocher was the other top-five finisher, claiming fifth with a career-best 254.40, while freshman Jack Macceca made his collegiate debut with a seventh place dive of 242.25.
In the other sprint, the 50 fly, freshman Andrew Limpert finished fifth overall. Finally, in the final event of the night, junior duo of McAnany and Nelson were top-five finishers in the 100 IM, as McAnany placed third, and Nelson fifth.
