Falcons Return Home to Host San Jose State, Nevada

Air Force will host the Spartans on Thursday, Oct. 11, and the Wolfpack on Saturday, Oct 13.
After a short weekend on the road, the Air Force volleyball team returns to the Academy this weekend for a pair of Mountain West contests. The Falcons, who are 12-7 overall and 8-3 at home, will host San Jose State on Thursday, Oct. 11, before welcoming Nevada to Cadet West Gym on Saturday, Oct. 13.

SCOUTING THE OPPONENTS
San Jose State (6-9, 1-5) and Nevada (8-9, 1-5) will face each other in San Jose on Tuesday night before traveling to Colorado later in the week. The Spartans are coming off of a 0-2 road trip to UNLV (1-3) and New Mexico (0-3), while the Wolfpack dropped both of its road contests against the Lobos (2-3) and Rebels (1-3). San Jose State's Luiza Andrade is ranked among the conference's top-three in aces (second, 0.55) and digs (third, 4.36), while the team is listed fourth in aces (1.60) and Haylee Nelson is ranked eighth in hitting (.314). Backed by three of the conference's top-10 diggers – Mo Maluotoga, fifth at 4.03; Kayla Afoa, ninth at 3.12; Dalyn Burns, 10th at 3.09 – Nevada is ranked second in the conference for team digs (15.80). The Wolfpack also boast two of the league's top-10 kill producers in Jamelia Minor (sixth, 3.42) and Afoa (eighth, 3.14), while Ashley Maki is ranked fifth in service aces (0.43).

Air Force is 4-9 in its all-time series against San Jose State and holds a 5-8 series record against Nevada. The Falcons, who are 3-4 against both programs at the Academy, previously defeated the Spartans in 2015 and last took a match from the Wolfpack during a season sweep in 2014.

Two Falcons are listed among the top of the Mountain West in their respective statistical categories. Denise Ssozi is listed seventh in kills (3.18) and 10th in points (3.56), while Abigail Miksch is tied for ninth in the kills (3.10). As a team, Air Force is listed among the top half of the conference in assists (third, 12.24), digs (third, 15.75), kills (fifth, 12.92) and opponent hitting (fifth, .173).
MIKSCH MAKES HISTORY
With a 16-kill outing at Wyoming on Oct. 4, Abigail Miksch became the sixth player in Air Force's Division I history to register 1000 kills in a career. With her sixth kill of the night at the UniWyo Sports Complex, the senio joined Akokwe Clement (1501), Delavane Diaz (1468), Kristin Hamlett (1178), Brooke Effland (1092) and Maggie Sherrill (1013) as DI Falcons to break the 1000-kill plateau.
