The senior kicks off the Falcons' 2018-19 season at the Sharon Colyear-Danville Opener.
Senior Jaci Smith, fresh off of a stellar cross country campaign, kicks off Air Force's 2018-19 track and field season this Saturday (Dec. 1), when she travels to Boston, Mass., to compete in the prestigious 5000-meter run at the Sharon Colyear-Danville Season Opener.
MEET INFORMATION
The Sharon Colyear-Danville Season Opener, hosted by Boston University, will take place at the BU Track and Tennis Center. The 5000-meter run, the final event of the meet, is currently slated to begin at 4:40 p.m. (ET) and will feature a stacked lineup of nationally-recognized runners, including 14 recent cross country All-Americans. Smith, who holds a personal-best indoor time of 15:59.91 (adjusted for altitude), is slated to run in the first section. FloTrack will broadcast the meet through its FloPro subscription service, while Lancer Timing will provide live results.
QUICK RECAP ON SMITH'S CROSS COUNTRY SEASON
Jaci Smith capped a strong cross country season by finishing 27th at the NCAA Championships and becoming just the second Air Force female to capture All-America honors at the Division I level. The senior, who was named the USTFCCCA National Runner of the Week after winning the season-opening Wyoming Invitational, earned all-conference and all-region honors for the third time in as many years. By shattering the program's 6K (any altitude) standard with a 19:44.1 performance at the regional meet, Smith became the first Air Force runner (male or female) to advance to three-straight national championship meets since John Jones in 1968-70.
COMING UP...
The Falcons open team competition next Friday (Dec. 7), when they host the annual Air Force Holiday Open at the Cadet Field House Indoor Track.
