Air Force women's basketball will host the Patriots of George Mason, Friday at noon, in Clune Arena. The game will serve as a field trip day for local Colorado Springs youth.
Series History…
- The Falcons and Patriots will be meeting for the second time in program history.
- George Mason leads the series with the only win.
- The last time the teams met was in December of the 2015-16 season where the Patriots beat the Falcons, 69-52, in Fairfax, Va.
The Coaches…
Air Force: Chris Gobrecht (USC `77)
- Led the 2017-18 team that yielded six new individual school records including the program's first-ever Mountain West Freshman of the Year in Kaelin Immel, who set four program-records highlighted by the most-ever points scored by an Air Force freshman in the Div. I era.
- Has an overall career record of 554-552 (.500) at the beginning of her 39th season.
- Is 12-79 after winning her first season-opener since taking the helm of Air Force.
George Mason: Nyla Milleson (Kansas State, '85)
-The Patriots have gradually improved, especially in Atlantic 10 Conference play, under Milleson's watch. In 2017-18, the Patriots had one of the best seasons in program history and tied for the 10th-best one-season turnaround in the nation with a nine-game turnaround (which factors in total wins and losses). Their plus-11 wins from just 13 the year before was also one of the best in the country.
-Overall Record 361-209 (19th season)
-Record at Mason 71-86 (Sixth season)
Up Next…
The Falcons will open the road slate against Denver, Nov. 11, at the Ritchie Center, Denver, Colorado.
After One Game…
Kaelin Immel registered 25 points in the season opener to tie her second-best career mark which was scored in last season's win over Mountain West foe San Jose State. The 2018 MW Freshman of the Year, who led Air Force in scoring last season, notched her seventh career 20+ point game in the win.
The Falcon freshmen, led by starting forward Riley Snyder, are making early contributions. Snyder, a native of Fruita, Colorado, notched 11 points, including two three-pointers from the wing. Freshman teammate Brianna Autrey made her presence known, using her speed and handling to tally seven points in her collegiate debut. Haley Jones scored three points in her first game as a collegiate athlete while freshmen teammates Audrey Gadison and Coco Kuchins registered minutes.
Junior forward Kassady Huffman also proved to be a force for the Falcons. The 6-2 Colorado Springs, Colorado, native who missed all of last season, picked up right where she left off, scoring 10 points while leading the squad with five blocks. Huffman also tallied two steals; two behind Air Force steals frontrunner, Emily Conroe. Conroe's four steals and defensive effort help keep a hungry Mountaineer team at bay. Conroe, who was second on the team in scoring last season, took the wind out of Western Colorado's sail with a critical three-pointer at 4:16 remaining in the fourth period to end the Mountaineers' six-point comeback run.
