Air Force women's basketball falls to 4-7 as they prepare to open the Mountain West slate
EUGENE, Oregon - A close first quarter turned into Air Force's largest margin of defeat on the season as the Falcons fell to the seventh-ranked Oregon Ducks, 82-36, Thursday afternoon, in Matthew Knight Arena, Eugene, Oregon. Oregon improved to 10-1 on the season while Air Force dropped to 4-7 as they head prepare for Mountain West Conference action in the New Year.
The Falcons were led by freshman guard Haley Jones who scored eight points and collected seven rebounds while the Air Force freshmen, as a unit, combined for 24 points.
Both teams shot below their season field goal and three-point averages. The Falcons were 23.3 percent from the field and 25.0 percent from beyond the arc.
Oregon's Ruthy Hebard led the Ducks with 20 points but Sabrina Ionescu was the x-factor, as she dropped 17 points, 13 assists and 11 rebounds for her 13th career triple-double.
Air Force travels to Albuquerque, New Mexico, to take on conference front-runners, New Mexico, in the Mountain West Conference opener, Wednesday, Jan. 2. Tipoff is slated for 7 p.m. MT, in Dreamstyle Arena.
