WOODLAND, Calif. – After winning the high bar title and helping Air Force to its ninth-straight team title at the USAG Collegiate Nationals last weekend, junior Lukas Texeira was named the Mountain Pacific Sports Federation Gymnast of the Week. It is the first career conference award for Texeira.
The Waukesha, Wis., native won the high bar title on Saturday, March 31, as he scored a 14.000 to defeat the eight-man Finals' field by 0.750 points. Reaching the 14-point mark for the fourth time this season, Texeira became the program's first high bar champion since 2014. His individual title came one day after he registered a 13.650 to finish first out of 39 gymnasts – bettering the field by 0.650 points – and help Air Force to its ninth team title in as many years.
Texeira is currently ranked sixth in the NCAA with a four-score average of 14.067.
The 11th-ranked Falcons remain at the Academy this weekend, when they host top-ranked Oklahoma, fourth-ranked Stanford and 12th-ranked California for the MPSF Championships on Saturday, April 7. Action is slated to begin at 5:00 p.m. (MT) inside Cadet West Gym.
