
Air Force Trio Opens Action at Jim Click Decathlon

TUCSON, Ariz. -- Three decathletes from the Air Force track and field team opened competition at the Jim Click Shootout today (April 5) in Tucson.
Collecting 3492 points through the first five events, senior Calvin Berstler is currently third. The senior, who capped the opening day with a first-place, career-best time of 49.89 in the 400-meter dash, finished within the top half of the field in four of the five events. In addition to his win at 400 meters, Berstler added four-place marks in the 100-meter dash (11.31), long jump (career-best 21'7½") and high jump (6'0"). He rounded out the opening day with a sixth-place distance of 34'0¼" in the shot put.
Senior Tyler Berson and freshman Justin Harmon are listed fifth (3354) and sixth (3203), respectively, after the first five events at Roy P. Drachman Stadium.
Berson posted his best finishes on the track, as he placed third in both the 100-meter (11.28) and 400-meter (50.45) races. The senior added a top-five finish in the shot put (fifth, 35'10½"), while finishing seventh in the high jump (5'9¾") and eighth in the long jump (20'1¾"). In his first collegiate decathlon, Harmon nabbed fifth-place marks in both running events (100-meter dash: 11.44; 400-meter dash: 52.34), a sixth-place finish in the long jump (career-best 20'9¾") and eighth-place marks in the shot put (33'0½") and high jump (5'8½").
Berstler, Berson and Harmon return to action tomorrow (April 6) morning, as the final five events of the decathlon are scheduled to begin at 10:00 a.m. (MST). The rest of the team will begin action at the two-day Sun Angel Classic in Tempe tomorrow afternoon, while several Falcons will compete at the Colorado Invitational on Saturday (April 7).
