
Tyler Berson Paces Trio at Jim Click Decathlon

TUCSON, Ariz. – Air Force senior Tyler Berson registered a total of 6,471 points to lead a trio of Air Force decathletes at the Jim Click Combined Events, which wrapped up this afternoon (April 6) at Roy P. Drachman Stadium in Tucson.
Berson's highest placement of the day came in the javelin throw, where he posted a distance of 157'1" to finish second. He also picked up a fourth-place clearance of 13'11¼" in the pole vault, while adding fifth-place marks in the discus throw (106'2") and 1500-meter run (4:45.57). The senior closed out his stat line with a season-best time of 16.16 in the 110-meter hurdles (seventh).
Freshman Justin Harmon and senior Calvin Berstler both earned first-place marks during the second day of decathlon competition, as they finished fifth (6112) and sixth (6084), respectively, in the final standings.
In his first collegiate decathlon, Harmon posted a career-best clearance of 16'2¾" to win the pole vault by more than one foot. The freshman added a third-place time of 15.36 in the 110-meter hurdles and an eighth-place throw of 87'0" in the discus throw, while making his outdoor debut in the 1500-meter run (seventh, 5:19.04) and javelin throw (eighth, 111'3"). Berstler captured a first-place time in the 1500-meter run, as he bettered the field by nearly six seconds to win the meet's final event in a career-best time of 4:37.57. The senior, who suffered a ‘no height' in the pole vault, finished second in the 110-meter hurdles (15.32), third in the javelin throw (153'2") and fourth in the discus throw (111'10") to complete his day in the decathlon.
The rest of the team opens action at the two-day Sun Angel Classic in Tempe later tonight (April 6), while several Falcons will compete at the weather-shortened Colorado Invitational on Saturday (April 7).
