Air Force shot an even par 288 in the first round at the Gene Miranda Falcon Invitational
U.S. AIR FORCE ACADEMY, Colo. – The Air Force golf team shot an even-par, 288, and is just four shots off the lead after the first day of the 50th annual Gene Miranda Falcon Invitational, Friday, Sept. 7, at the Eisenhower Blue Course.
New Mexico State leads the 16-team field after shooting an opening round 284 (-4). Weber State and Colorado are tied for second (285, -3), UC Davis is in fourth (286, -2), Wyoming is fifth (287, -1) and Air Force is sixth at 288.
Junior Josh Wu led the way for the Falcons with a three-under 69. The 69 ties as his second best round as a Falcon. After a 34 on the front side, Wu birdied holes 11 and 12 to get to four-under for the day. His only bogey came on the 240-yard, par 3, 17th hole. Junior Joseph Crisostomo shot an even-par 72, which included an eagle on the 610-yard 15th hole. Senior Turner Howe came in with a 73, while seniors Tate Tatom and Andy Germann each shot 74.
Four Falcons competed as individuals. Three freshmen, Jonathan Farmer (73), Luke Trujillo (74) and Colter Baca (74), all competed in their first collegiate tournament. Junior Anson Kuznik shot a 76.
New Mexico State's Tadhg Campbell is the top individual with an opening round 67. Campbell's teammate, Mike McGilton is second with a 68. Wu is tied for third with UC Davis' Ryan Han, Wyoming's Dan Starzinski and Weber State's Reese Fisher.
The second round of the tournament begins at 7:30 a.m. MT on Saturday, Sept. 8. The final round is Sunday, Sept. 9, with tee times beginning at 7:15 am MT.
