The Falcons play a pair of conference games in California
This Week: Air Force (9-12 overall, 0-2 WWPA ) takes on ninth-ranked UC San Diego (16-6, 5-0 WWPA) on Friday, Oct. 25, at 6 pm PT in La Jolla, Calif. The Falcons will then face Concordia (7-12, 2-2 WWPA) on Saturday, Oct. 26, at 6 pm in Irvine.
The Series: Air Force and UCSD meet for the 87th time in the history of the series that began in 1975. The Tritons hold a 70-16 lead in the series. The teams met three times last season, including once in the WWPA Championships when the Tritons defeated the Falcons, 15-3. The Tritons have won seven straight in the series. AF's last win was 10-5 in 2015. Air Force holds a 7-6 lead in the series against Concordia that started in 2009. The Falcons defeated the Eagles, 19-11 last season.
Scouting the Opponents: UC San Diego is ranked ninth in the nation. The Tritons are 16-6 overall and lead the WWPA with a 5-0 record. UCSD's Connor Turnbow-Lindenstadt is second in the WWPA with 54 goals and 84 points. Concordia is 7-12 overall and is in fourth place in the conference at 2-2. Concordia's Marius Jakimcikas leads the WWP with 76 goals and 94 points.
Last Weekend: Loyola Marymount, ranked 11th in the nation, scored four unanswered goals late in the fourth quarter in a 16-14 win over Air Force, Oct, 19, at the Cadet Natatorium. The game was tied at 4-4 after one quarter and 7-7 at the end of the half. A pair of goals by Reagan Pittman early in the third gave the Falcons a 9-7 lead. LMU scored three straight for an 11-10 lead after three. Harris scored two goals in the first 40 seconds of the fourth quarter and Grant Snyder added one for a 13-11 Falcon lead with 5:57 left in the fourth. The Lions then scored four straight, two by Jonny Rimlinger and two by Blazo Mitrovic, who had eight goals in the game, for a 15-13 Lion lead. Luke Andres scored with 15 seconds left and David Carrasco scored for LMU with one second remaining.
The Helping Hand: Senior Reagan Pittman leads the nation with 48 assists this season. Pittman also ranks seventh in the conference, and leads the team, with 57 points. He has two or more assists in 12 games this season, including a career-best six against La Verne, Chapman and UC Davis. In the win over Brown, he had a career-high four goals. Pittman also leads the team with 25 steals and nine field blocks this season.
The Water Cheetah: Senior Mike Miller's speed has gained Air Force the first possession more times than not. Miller leads the nation with 65 sprint victories this season. Miller is 65-9 in sprints this season, and his .879 winning percentage is the best in the conference (among players who have more than 25 sprints). Miller is also third in the league in goals scored with 43, including a career-high six in the win over Chapman.
Between the Pipes: Both junior James Burke and sophomore Anthony Tolbert have seen action between the pipes this season. Burke leads the team with five wins this season. Tolbert has won four games and leads the team, and ranks sixth in the conference, with 146 saves. He is also third in the league with 29 steals. He made a season-high 12 saves against No. 8 Long Beach State, Sept. 22. He has had 11 twice this season, in wins over Occidental and Whittier.
