Falcon Men's Soccer Closes the Home Slate against GCU, UNLV This Weekend

Air Force men's soccer will kick off against GCU, Thursday at 6 p.m., and against UNLV, Saturday at 1 p.m.
THIS WEEKEND: The Falcons return home for the final week of home field advantage, hosting Grand Canyon on Halloween (Thurs., Oct. 31) and UNLV on Saturday (Nov. 2). Due to snowy weather conditions, the match against GCU will take place at Cadet Lacrosse Stadium (northwest outside of Cadet Field House), at 6 p.m. Saturday's match against UNLV is still slated for 1 p.m. MT on the turf of Cadet Lacrosse Stadium. Live streams will not be available for the matches. Saturday's match will serve as Senior Day as the Falcons honor three seniors in team captain Nick Blessing, his twin brother Ben Blessing, and Julian Flores.
THE SERIES: Air Force and Grand Canyon (4-6-4, 1-4-3 WAC) will be meeting for the ninth time in program history, the Falcons lead the all-time series, 4-3-1. Air Force has won three of the last five meetings; however, GCU won the last two matches, one-nil, highlighted by the win that ended Air Force's 2018 WAC tournament run in the opening round.
The Falcons will meet with UNLV for the 41st time in program history. Air Force leads the all-time series, 21-16-3. In the last 10 meetings, the Falcons are 6-3-1 against the Rebels; however, UNLV has not beat the Falcons at USAFA since 2003-- Air Force is 9-0-1 against UNLV in the last 10 meetings at the Academy.
UP NEXT: Air Force travels to Orem, Utah, to take on Utah Valley in the regular season finale at 1 p.m. MT, on Saturday, Nov. 9. The WAC tournament, which Air Force is slated to host, will begin Wednesday (Nov, 13) at Cadet Soccer Stadium.
LAST TIME OUT: Last weekend, men's soccer dropped a pair of Western Athletic Conference matches, falling to WAC front-runners Seattle U, 2-1, and San Jose State, 2-0. The Falcons, now 5-9 with a 4-4 mark in the league, still maintain playoff contention hopes in the wake of the losses.
AROUND THE LEAGUE: The extremely competitive schedule continues this week as squads battle for one of seven spots at the upcoming WAC tournament. Grand Canyon and UNLV head to the mountains to take on Air Force and Utah Valley in important games for all four schools. Seattle U and San José State head to Texas for games at UIW and UT Rio Grande Valley. Finally, CSU Bakersfield and California Baptist head east for games at Kansas City and Houston Baptist.
Seattle U became the first school to clinch a spot in next month's WAC Tournament at the United States Air Force Academy in Colorado Springs, Colo.
Seattle U continues to lead the WAC in shots (288), points (95), goals (32), assists (31), corners (116) and are tied with UT Rio Grande Valley for the tie in shutouts (7). UTRGV also leads the league in goals allowed (11) and goals against average (0.82). California Baptist holds the lead in saves (87).
Individually, UVU's Blake Frischknecht is the leader in shots (61), game-winning goals (5) and is tied with UNLV's Timo Mehlich for the scoring lead (9). SU's Declan McGlynn is the leader in points (23) and assists (7). In goal, UTRGV's Andy Rios holds the top goals against average at 0.82 and is tied with SU's Akili Kasim for the lead in shutouts (7). CBU's Albert Escuin is tops in saves (87) and save percentage (.837).
