Series vs. Niagara - Air Force and Niagara have played 74 times and the Purple Eagles hold a 38-31-5 lead in the series that began in 1996 when both teams were independents. As AHC rivals, AF has a 20-11-2 lead in the series. From 1999-2000 to 2005-06, both teams were in College Hockey America and played 31 times. Niagara held a 22-6-3 advantage. Since the 2010-11 season, the teams have both been members of Atlantic Hockey.
Last season, the teams played four times and Niagara won three. The teams split a series at the Academy, in October. NU won the first game, 5-0 and AF won the second game, 2-1. Niagara then swept Air Force, 3-2 OT and 5-4 OT, in the AHA Quarterfinals to end Air Force's season. The teams have only met twice in the playoffs, the 2014 and 2019 quarterfinals and NU won both series, 2-0.
In games played at Dwyer Arena, Air Force is 12-15-4 against NU. AF has won four straight at Dwyer Arena with sweeps in 2016 and 2018. Just four of the last 15 games in the series have been played at Niagara.
Scouting Niagara - Niagara is 3-8-1 overall and 3-4-1 in the AHA. After a rough start with a 0-8-1 record, the Purple Eagles have won three straight. Four of those eight losses came on the road at Denver and Minnesota. After a split at Canisius, Nov. 15-16, Niagara swept Mercyhurst, winning 5-0 in Erie and 3-1 at home. Goalie Brian Wilson stopped 49 of 50 shots in the series. Freshman Ryan Naumovski leads the team with nine points, all assists. Sophomore Ludwig Stenlund had five points in the Mercyhurst series and has seven (3-4-7) on the season.
The Streak - Air Force's five-game unbeaten streak is tied as the fourth-longest active streak in the nation. North Dakota leads with a nine-game unbeaten streak (8-0-1), followed by Cornell (8) and Harvard (6). Boston College and Minnesota State also have five-game unbeaten streaks.
The five-game unbeaten streak ties as the longest by the Falcons since a nine-gamer late in the 2016-17 season, a season that Air Force won the AHA Tournament and reached the NCAA Elite Eight.
