Women’s Gymnastics Wins Second-Straight Meet

Air Force women’s gymnastics combined for a score 188.200, beating UW-La Crosse and UW-Whitewater, Friday evening
LA CROSSE, Wisconsin - The Air Force women's gymnastics team won its second-straight meet, Friday evening, against UW-La Crosse and UW-Whitewater, in La Crosse, Wisconsin. The Falcons finished first with a team score of 188.200, while La Crosse finished second (186.975) and Whitewater took third (182.500).
Sophomore all-around specialist Tyler Davis led the Falcons with three first-place finishes, winning the vault, the floor exercise and the all-around score. Other Falcons to win first-place were Cam Barber (beam) and Anna Salamone (uneven bars). Air Force won 10 top-three placings on the event.
On the vault, Davis led the field with a 9.500 followed up by sophomore teammate Heidi Sand in a tie for second (9.475). Air Force's team score in the event was 46.500.
The Falcons dominated the uneven parallel bars, taking the top-three placings and a share of fourth place with a 47.850 team score in the event. Salamone led the field with a 9.750 while teammates Jessica Kirkpatrick (9.600) and Mariana Murphy (9.550) finished second and third, respectively. Barber tied Bailey Fitzpatrick of UW-Whitewater four fourth with a score of 9.525.
Air Force, who is ranked No. 20 in the nation on the beam, struggled to hit their best marks, scoring a 46.550 in the event. Barber, one of Air Force's lead beam specialists, did not disappoint as she took first in the event with a score of 9.775. No other Falcons finished in the top-three.
In the floor exercise, Davis led the way with a 9.600, followed up by teammate Brooke Bruder who posted a 9.525 result for second. Natalie Meyer, a freshman, finished in a four-way tie for third with a score of 9.450. The team finished with a 47.300 in the event.
Davis and Kacey Mortenson of UW-La Crosse were the only two competitors in the all-around event which Davis won with an all-around score of 37.550. Davis has six first-place finishes this season.
Air Force returns home to compete in Cadet West Gym for the last time this season, Feb. 9. The Falcons will host Senior Day against BYU, Seattle Pacific and Springfield, at 7 p.m. MT, Saturday evening. Seniors Riley Hill, Analise Howard, Emily Luers, Mariana Murphy and Brittney Reed will be honored at the event.
