The championship portion of the indoor season gets underway for the Air Force track and field team this week, as it travels to Albuquerque, N.M., for the 2019 Mountain West Indoor Track and Field Championships. The three-day meet, which will be held at the ABQ Convention Center, begins on Thursday, Feb. 21, and continues through Saturday, Feb. 24.
MEET INFORMATION
The Mountain West Indoor Track and Field Championships will be held at the ABQ Convention Center in downtown Albuquerque. Tickets are $10 for adults and $5 for students (with ID) and children under 12 during each full day of competition (Thursday is free). For fans unable to attend the meet, real-time results will be available via Record Timing (a direct link is available on the Falcons' schedule page) and the meet will be broadcast on FloTrack through its subscription service. In addition, updates and highlights will be posted to Air Force's social media sites throughout the week.
SCHEDULE OF EVENTS
The first four events of the men's heptathlon get underway at 10:00 a.m. (MT) on Thursday, Feb. 21, while the distance medley relays are slated to begin at 4:00 p.m., that afternoon. Friday's competition begins with the conclusion of the heptathlon at 10:00 a.m., while the individual events start at 12:30 p.m. (field) and 1:30 p.m. (track). Championship Saturday also starts at 10:00 a.m., while the running finals get underway at 11:40 a.m. A complete schedule of events is located on page two of the attached release.
PARTICIPATING TEAMS
The Mountain West Indoor Track and Field Championships will feature 11 women's teams (Air Force, #9 Boise State, Colorado State, Fresno State, Nevada, #5 New Mexico, San Diego State, San Jose State, UNLV, Utah State and Wyoming) and the men's teams from Air Force, Boise State, Colorado State, New Mexico, San Jose State, Utah State and Wyoming.
HISTORY 101
Since the formation of the Mountain West, Air Force has captured three men's titles (2012, 2016, 2018) and its athletes have stood atop the indoor podium 65 times and collected 226 all-conference selections. Former standout Jamiel Trimble is the Academy's most decorated indoor athlete, with five conference titles, eight individual all-MW awards and the Meet Record at 200 meters (20.67). Other former standouts – Justin Tyner (5000-meter run: 14:13.33), Taylor Smith (high jump: 7'2½") and Kyle Pater (pole vault: 18'6½") – also hold MW Meet Records.
CONFERENCE SNAPSHOT
Entering championship weekend, Air Force holds the league's top marks in the 60-meter dash (Terrell Bradford: 6.76) and 5000-meter run (Jacob Bilvado: 13:59.88), while being listed among the league's top-five an additional 24 times.

Conference competitors Ari Martinez and Kelsey Owens both hail from Albuquerque and attended St. Pius X High School.
LOOKING AT THE NATIONAL LANDSCAPE
Highlighted by a No. 7 ranking in the 5000-meter run from Jaci Smith, the Falcons has six athletes ranked among the top-40 of the national standings. Sedacy Walden is ranked 10th in the 500-meter run (1:03.28), while Kathryn Tomczak also holds a top-20 ranking with a No. 18 placement in the pole vault (14'0"). Michael Rhoads is ranked 35th at 800 meters (1:49.50a) and Jacob Bilvado is listed 40th in the 5000-meter run (13:59.88), while Smith holds a second top-40 ranking at the 3000-meter distance (9:14.90, 38th).

Air Force is off until March 8-9, when select athletes travel to Birmingham, Ala., to close out the indoor season at the NCAA Indoor Track and Field Championships.
