Air Force is now off until Feb. 15-16
WALTHAM, Mass. . – Bentley goalie Aiden Pelino stopped all 20 shots he faced in a 4-0 win over Air Force in an Atlantic Hockey Conference game Saturday, Feb. 2, at Bentley Arena in Waltham, Mass.
Bentley (12-11-3, 11-7-2 AHC) took the early lead on the rush at 11:31. After an Air Force turnover in the neutral zone, Luke Orysiuk put back a rebound from Luke Santerno and Ryner Gorowsky.
Bentley controlled play in the second period and took a 2-0 lead on the rush. Will Garin carried the puck down the right boards and found Santerno in the slot. Santerno scored his ninth of the season at 13:02 for a two-goal lead.
Early in the third period, the Falcons carried play and had several quality chances. Pelino was there to make the saves and several pucks slid just wide of the post. With 4:29 left in the third, Drew Callin made a long outlet pass and Jonathan Desbiens scored for a 3-0 lead. With just over three minutes left, and in a 4-on-4 situation, the Falcons pulled the goalie for the extra attacker. With 1:51 left, Matt Lombardozzi sent a puck from deep in his own end into the empty net to seal the 4-0 win.
Bentley outshot Air Force, 29-20, in the game. Air Force was 0-for-4 on the power play while Bentley was 0-for-3. Billy Christopoulos made 25 saves for the Falcons.
"Bentley is playing with so much confidence right now," head coach Frank Serratore said. "We were better than last night, but they were better than us. Sometimes you have to tip your hat to your opponent. They were the better team. All of their goals came in transition. We have to play a better 200-foot game. They scored eight even-strength goals this weekend. That is scary."
Air Force (13-11-4, 11-8-3 AHC) is now idle until a home conference series against Canisius, Feb. 15-16, at Cadet Ice Arena.
