
Falcons Open Action at Mountain Lion Open

COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. – Highlighted by the 10th-fastest distance medley relay in Academy history, several members of the Air Force track and field team kicked off competition at the UCCS Mountain Lion Open this afternoon (Feb. 8) in Colorado Springs.
In the Falcons' first DMR event of the season, junior Swathi Samuel, freshman Michelle Roca, sophomore Mahala Norris and senior Shanna Burns posted an altitude-converted time of 12:05.38 (12:21.63 actual) to finish second in the meet and debut in 10th on the program's all-time standings.
Freshman Grace Proesch captured a pair of top-10 finishes at the new Mountain Lion Fieldhouse, as she finished ninth in the preliminary heat of the 60-meter dash (8.21) and earned a fifth-place time of 26.74 to pace the Falcons to three of the top-eight finishes in the 200-meter dash. Classmate Queen Dais posted a time of 27.27 to finish one spot behind Proesch (sixth) in the 24-runner event, while fellow freshman Michelle Roca clocked a career-best time of 27.54 to finish eighth.
Sophomore Megan Carbiener also accounted for a top-10 finish for the Falcons, as she recorded a distance of 48'10¼" to finish fifth in the weight throw – the only field event contested by the women on Friday.
On the men's side, freshmen La'akea Aiu and Wyatt Murphy advanced into tomorrow's finals of the 60-meter hurdles (8.84, eighth) and 60-meter dash (7.05, seventh), respectively, while classmate Carter Kuehl collected a pair of top-10 marks. Kuehl clocked a career-best time of 7.10 to join Murphy among the top-10 of the 60-meter dash preliminary and posted a seventh-place time of 23.05 to lead Air Force to pair of top-10 finishers in the 200-meter event (freshman Cameron Sturdivant, ninth in 23.18).
In the men's only field event, sophomore Addison Brown cleared 6'2¾" to tie for eighth in the high jump.
