Air Force hosts Niagara in AHC Quarterfinal series

Falcons and Niagara meet March 15-17 at Cadet Ice Arena
This Week: Third-seeded Air Force (16-13-5, 14-10-4 AHC) hosts sixth-seeded Niagara (14-18-5, 11-12-5 AHC) in a best-of-three quarterfinal series, Friday-Saturday, March 15-16, and Sunday, March 17, if necessary. All games will start at 7:05 pm MT.

The Playoffs: AIC won the regular-season title with 37 points. No. 2 Bentley, No. 3 Air Force and No. 4 Sacred Heart will all host quarterfinal series. Sacred Heart will host No. 5 RIT in the quarterfinals. In the other quarterfinal series, No. 1 AIC hosts No. 10 Army and No. 2 Bentley hosts No. 8 Robert Morris.The winners will meet in the AHC Final Four, March 22-23, at the HarborCenter in Buffalo.
The Falcons in the Playoffs: Air Force joined Atlantic Hockey for the 2006-07 season and has won seven AHC tournament titles in 12 years. This is Air Force's 13th season in the AHC. Air Force won the AHC Tournament title in 2007, 2008, 2009, 2011, 2012, 2017 and 2018.Air Force has earned a bye in 12 of the 13 seasons and hosts a quarterfinal series for the 11th time in 13 years. Air Force is 8-2 in the 10 quarterfinal series at home, In 12 quarterfinal series overall, the Falcons are 9-3. In Air Force's first six years in the league, the Falcons won a quarterfinal series and advanced to the Final Four in Rochester every year. However, Air Force missed going to the Final Four the next three years (2013, 2014 and 2015). The Falcons lost in the quarterfinals, at home to Canisius in 2013, at home to Niagara in 2014 and on the road at RIT in 2015. Air Force has gone to three straight AHC Final Fours from 2016-18. The Falcons fell in the semifinals to RIT in overtime in the 2016 semifinals. The Falcons then won the 2017 and 2018 AHC Championships
AF is 34-11 all-time in the AHC playoffs and 14-2 all-time in the AHC Final Four.

The Purple Eagles hosted Canisius in a first-round series and defeated the Griffs in three games. After winning game one, 5-4 in double overtime, Canisius won game two, 4-3 in overtime. NU won the third game, 2-1 in regulation. Niagara is 4-1-2 in the last seven games. Junior defenseman Noah Delmas leads the team with 38 points. Freshman Ludwig Stenlund leads the team with 20 goals and has 36 points. Brian Wilson has a .905 saves percentage and a 2.85 GAA while playing nearly every minute in goal.

Since the 2010-11 season, the teams have both been members of Atlantic Hockey. The teams have played six times the last three years and each team has won three games.The teams met earlier this season at the Academy, and the teams split a two-game series, Oct. 25-26. Niagara won game one, 5-0, while AF won game two, 2-1.
