
Women’s Gymnastics Concludes Team Portion at USA Gymnastics Collegiate Nationals

Air Force women’s gymnastics posted a 194.575 team score to finish fourth in the team finals
BRIDGEPORT, Conn. -- The Air Force women's gymnastics team combined for 194.575 to finish fourth in the USA Gymnastics Collegiate Nationals Team Finals, Saturday evening, at the University of Bridgeport. The Lindenwood University Lions took the team title with a 196.375 mark while the University of Illinois-Chicago finished second (196.025) and host University of Bridgeport finished third (195.925).
The Falcons opened up team finals action on the vault where Heidi Sand and Anna Salamone posted 9.825 marks to finish in a five-way tie for second place. Tyler Davis recorded a 9.775 to finish in a seven-way tie for ninth-place. The squad combined for a 48.825 in the event.
The Falcons moved to the parallel uneven bars where Anna Salamone posted a 9.900 to finish true-first in the event. The score marked the Bayport, New York, native's second 9.9 of the weekend and seventh of the season. Teammates Jessica Kirkpatrick and Daija Stevenson posted stellar 9.825 performances on the bars, marking a season-high for Kirkpatrick and a career-best for Stevenson as the pair finished in a five-way tie for fourth-place. Davis hit a career-high mark as well, recording a 9.800 for an eight-way tie at ninth-place. The squad combined for a season-high 49.125 and the highest score in the event.
Air Force moved on to the balance beam where senior Emily Luers led the way with a 9.875 for a two-way tie at fifth-place. The score marked a career-high mark for the senior beam specialist. Freshman Cameo Stapleton also posted a career-best score with a 9.775 mark for a two-way tie at 11th-place. Senior Riley Hill posted a 9.750 to help the Falcons to a 47.900 on the event.
Air Force's final event was the floor exercise, where Sand and Davis led the team with 9.850 marks to tie for fourth-place, marking a career-best for Sand. Hill was the next high-scoring Falcon as the senior recorded a 9.750 mark, finishing in a four-way tie at 16th place. The team combined for a 48.725 in the event, finalizing the team score at 194.575.
With the team portion of the meet wrapped up, the Falcons will put forth their top individual performers to compete for national titles in the final session of the USA Gymnastics Collegiate Nationals. Individual event action is slated for a 1 p.m. ET start at the Wheeler Recreation Center at the University of Bridgeport.
