TORRANCE, Calif. – Air Force senior Nathan Thomas had a strong 10,000-meter debut late Thursday (April 18) night at the Mt. SAC Relays. As the clock ticked toward midnight in Torrance, Calif., the senior posted the seventh-fastest time in Academy history during a runner-up finish of the Invitational section.
Thomas, one of three Falcons to compete in the various sections of the 10,000-meter run at Murdock Stadium on Thursday night, clocked a debut time of 29:21.59 to finish as the top collegiate in his section of the "Invitational" race. Finishing second overall in his 28-runner section, the senior placed among the top 15 in the full 58-runner Invitational field (14th) – and fifth among all collegiate runners.
Classmate Mickey Davey, competing in his first race since the cross country season, clocked a time of 29:57.05 to finish 41st in the "Invitational" section, while junior Justin Weber posted a time of 30:38.39 in his 10K debut to finish within the top half of the field (11th of 29) of the "A-Open" section.
The Falcons return to action on Friday, as the squad splits for three California meets. The majority of the squad will divide their time between the Beach Invitational (Long Beach) and Mt SAC Relays (Torrance), while the 1500-meter team travels to Azusa for some late-night competition at the Bryan Clay Invitational.
