Falcon Lacrosse Takes on No. 14 High Point, Saturday

Air Force lacrosse and the High Point Panthers will face off at noon ET
THIS WEEK
The Falcons take on Southern Conference heavyweight, No. 14/15 High Point, 12 p.m. ET/10 MT, Saturday, April 6, at Vert Stadium. The Falcons are looking to redeem last season's loss to High Point, while the Panthers are riding high after knocking off two top-ten opponents earlier this season.

THE PANTHERS AT A GLANCE
The 14th-ranked High Point Panthers (8-2, 2-1 SoCon) are in third-place in the league standings after an upset loss to Jacksonville, March 23. The Panthers, who have beaten VMI and Furman in SoCon action, also knocked off two top-10 opponents, beating No. 2 Duke, 13-9, in Durham, North Carolina, and upending No. 9 Virginia, 14-13, in Charlottesville, Virginia.
The Panthers offense is led by redshirt senior Chris Young (34g, 6a), two-time SoCon Offensive Player of the Week Asher Nolting (25g, 30a) and junior attack man Ben Baker (24g, 6a). The High Point offense has outscored all opponents this season, 147-105.
Senior goalkeeper Tim Troutner is 8-2 in High Point's cage, holding a 10.37 goals against average and a .557 save-percentage. Troutner has won SoCon Defensive Player of the Week on three occasions, including the most recent nod on April 2.
LAST TIME THEY PLAYED
A High Point goal with 20-seconds remaining in the game lifted the Panthers to a 7-6 victory over Air Force on Senior Day, April 21, 2018. The Falcons outshot the Panthers, 37-27, but struggled at the face off X, winning only seven face offs in 17 attempts. Trey Lervick, Mathew Schwartz, Nick Hruby (graduated) and Chet Dunstan tallied two points apiece. Andrew Tien (graduated) led the team eight shots and two ground balls. Vince Lombardi led the Falcons with three caused turnovers, while goalkeeper Braden Host recorded eight first-half saves.
A LOOK AHEAD
The Falcons return to the Academy to take on the Richmond Spiders at noon MT, Saturday, April 13 at Falcon Stadium. Richmond, the 2018 SoCon champions, are currently the only other team besides Air Force to remain undefeated in league play. The Spider will play Jacksonville, March 30.
HOST WINS SOCON DEFENSIVE PLAYER OF THE MONTH
Sophomore lacrosse goalkeeper Braden Host has been named the Southern Conference's Defensive Player of the Month, announced Thursday, by the league's office. Host's offensive counterpart is Jack Dolan of Jacksonville.
Host, who is second in the nation with a 7.95 goals-against average (8.10 in the month of March), posted a 5-1 record in the Falcons cage during the month. He has been instrumental in keeping five-of-six opponents, including all three SoCon opponents, to single-digit goals. Despite the loss in cage to No. 2 Yale, he had a career-day for saves, making a career-high 19 saves against the 2018 national champions. He has not had a game with less than a .500-save percentage this season. The honor marks the first monthly award for Host and the first for Air Force this season.
LAST TIME OUT
Air Force doubled up Southern Conference foe Jacksonville, 14-7, Saturday afternoon (Mar. 30) at Falcon Stadium. At the final whistle, the Falcons outshot the Dolphins, 45-31, and picked up 20 more ground balls (43-23). Lervick led the squad with nine shots, Baker took six.
Air Force finished with its most dominating performance at the face off X all season, winning 21-of-24 attempts. Harper won 20-of-23 (.870) at X, setting a personal season-high mark in face off wins, while also picking up a team season-high 10 ground balls.
Jones was a defensive work horse, forcing a personal and team season-high five caused turnovers while picking up eight ground balls. The Falcon defense caused 10 Jacksonville's 21 turnovers.
Braden Host won his seventh game in the Falcons' cage, making seven saves on the game while picking up four ground balls. Freshman goalkeeper Ian Mullins also recorded a save in the final four minutes of action.
