Jake Gilbert Signed by the Cincinnati Reds

He will become the ninth Falcon to play MLB affiliated professional baseball
USAFA, Colo.- Recently graduated Air Force Academy baseball player Jake Gilbert was signed by the Cincinnati Reds organization Thursday, June 20. When he suits up for a Reds minor league affiliate, he will become the ninth Falcon baseball player to play affiliated professional baseball, and the first to do it in the Cincinnati organization. He joins fellow class of 2019 member Nic Ready, who was drafted by the Miami Marlins in the 23rd round of the MLB Draft.
The right handed pitcher from Evans, Ga. was the staff ace this season for the Falcons, starting the year in the bullpen before transitioning into the Friday starter role. He appeared in 15 games, starting ten. He led the Falcon arms with a team-best 2.55 ERA over 62 innings, including a team-high 53 strikeouts and a tied for the team led six wins. His 2.55 ERA is the eighth-best single season mark in program history.
In the conference, Gilbert's ERA was the third-best, while his wins were fourth-most, and his strikeouts were 10th. He pitched in the 13th most innings. He also led all pitchers with four pickoffs, and was one of two pitchers to not allow a home run all season. In his seven conference starts, Gilbert held an ERA of 2.89, which was the fourth-lowest in the conference. Nationally, Gilbert's 2.55 ERA ranks 74th.
He capped off his year with his first ever conference accolade, being named to the Mountain West Conference Second Team. He was also a stand out cadet, having earned Academic All-Conference honors three times, and graduating with his degree in business management. Gilbert was set to head to Laughlin AFB in Texas to begin undergraduate pilot training.
