Air Force Women’s Tennis Travels To West Point Invite

USAF ACADEMY, Colo. - Air Force women's tennis travels to Army West Point to participate in the West Point Invite, running Fri.-Sun., Sept. 27-29, at the Malek Tennis Center.   The Falcons will be among 20 teams competing.
"We are super excited to be competing in an individual tournament in the fall at West Point," head coach Kim Gidley said. "Four years ago, our seniors had an opportunity to compete at the Naval Academy in the fall and it was a great opportunity to see how another service academy operates and to see their environment first hand. Because of that experience, I wanted to make sure that our cadet-athletes would be able to compete at both academies during their four years at USAFA. When they all graduate, they are going to be working together on the same team. Most of our players know someone competing on Army's team. They grew up playing junior tennis together. I think it is pretty neat to see them grow up to be officers now."
"The tennis will be tough, with a big field," Gidley added. "Not only will we have to contend with some Army players, we will have some tough Ivy schools competing in the tournament too. We always love to challenge our cadet/athletes, so I think this tournament will be a great opportunity to grow on and off the court. The tournament is also taking another flavor to promote an atmosphere of good will between the two teams before they battle on the court with their Department of Faculty housing our cadet athletes. I want our cadet/athletes to learn as much as they can about West Point and their plebes. Coach Paul Peck was instrumental in setting this up, and we can't thank him enough."
