Last Time Out
Last weekend, Air Force lost a heartbreaker to Saint Francis in double overtime, 3-2. The Falcons controlled almost the entire match, including outshooting the Red Flash, 24-11, but a goal by SFU in the 106th minute proved to be the difference.
Air Force's two goals both came in the first half and both came off the foot of junior Jillian Jamero, for her second and third goals of the season, respectively. Her first tally was assisted by senior Kasey Stavig and junior Emma Nelson, while freshman Lexi Romero helped on the second one.
Rookies Making an Immediate Impact
The 2019 freshman class, which came in ranked as the 32nd ranked class according to Top Drawer Soccer, has already made an immediate impact on both sides of the field. Freshman forward Lexi Romero leads the team with seven points (2G, 3A), which ranks tied for third in the Conference.
Freshmen also tallying assists are Faith Lee and Emiley Benner, while freshman Kayla Milford has started all three games on defense, and totaled 225 minutes.
In all, freshmen have accounted for 1,152 minutes total in the first three games, which equates to 36 percent of the total minutes played.
Sharing is Caring
On Air Force's seven goals this season, there have been a total of nine assists. Freshman Lexi Romero and junior Emma Nelson are tied for the team lead with three each. The nine assists ranks 36th in the nation, while the 3.00 assists per game ranks 12th.
Opponent Connections
Besides sharing the distinction of being service academies, Air Force and Army share some individual connections as well. Air Force's Emma Nelson, and Army's Sydney Cassalia and Emily Torres all hail from the Omaha, Neb., with Nelson attending Marian High School, while Cassalia west to Millard West, and Torres went to Westside High School.
