Air Force men’s soccer was unable to find an offensive rhythm in the Friday evening matchup
Air Force had their first chance on the Hornets' cage five minutes into the match as a foul atop the box yielded the Falcons a free kick from 18-yards out. The shot was put center net at high-speed but not fast enough to get by the Sacramento State keeper.
The Hornets were on the offensive for the majority of the first half, firing off seven shots to Air Force's two. The Falcons had a set piece opportunity in the 40th minute when corner kick ball was sent nicely into the box but was headed directly to the keeper.
Two minutes later, a miscue on the Falcons 18-yard mark pulled sophomore keeper Kainoa Likewise off his line, leaving a wide open cage where Oscar Chavez toed the ball into the net with no resistance. Sacramento State continued the pressure until the halftime horn, entering the locker room with a one-nil lead.
In the 53rd minute, Air Force drew another foul at the 18-yard line, this time it was freshman Quinn Matulis who lined up to take the shot. Matulis fired a rocket to the right post but was deflected out by the Hornet keeper.
The Hornets countered with an offensive charge down the field where Christian Guzman broke free for an opportunity and a strike to give the Hornets a two-nil lead in the 54th minute. It was the last strike of the game as Air Force was unable find and offensive rhythm by the final horn.
Eight Falcons combined for eight shots on the match. Likewise recorded two saves as he moves to 1-1 in Air Force's cage.
Next up, the Falcons travel to Davis, California, to take on UC Davis at 1 PM PT, Sunday afternoon.
