Air Force women’s basketball closes the non-conference slate on a two-game win streak
USAF ACADEMY, Colo. - Air Force women's basketball (2-3) rolled to a 94-65 win over Portland State (1-1) Monday afternoon in non-conference action at Clune Arena. The 94 points was the most scored in the Chris Gobrecht era at the Academy and the second-most in Div. I play for the Falcons.
Junior forward Riley Snyder scored 27 points to lead the Falcons. The game marked her third-straight 20-point performance this season. Freshman Kayla Pilson scored 12 and Nikki McDonald added 10 points, marking season-high scoring numbers for the young Falcons.
Air Force shot a scorching 60.9 percent from the field and 53.3 percent from three-point range. The Falcons defense held the Vikings to 36 percent shooting on the day, while forcing 24 turnovers.
The Falcons came out the gates on strong, out-scoring Portland State 21-6 in the first quarter. The Vikings out-scored the Falcons 20-16 in the second quarter to make it a 37-26 game at the half.
Air Force went on to score 57 points in the second half to roll to the win. The Falcons shot 68 percent from the field in the second half and were a scorching 80 percent from the three-point line.
Snyder went 11 of 16 from the field and 5 of 7 from three point range. The junior added five rebounds and three steals.
Ten players scored at least two buckets for the Falcons. Briana Autrey-Thompson scored nine points to go with a team-high eight assists and three steals. Kassady Huffman scored eight points and had a team-high three blocked shots. Cierra Winters scored seven points and Audrey Gadison added six.
Desirae Hansen led Portland State with 16 points. Tatiana Streun added 13 points and 11 rebounds.
Air Force returns to action with two games at Utah State on Dec. 31 and Jan. 2.
