Falcons and Purple Eagles meet in Niagara, N.Y.
This Week: Air Force (0-4, 0-4 AHA) travels to Niagara, N.Y., for a two-game Atlantic Hockey series against the Niagara Purple Eagles (1-5-2, 0-4-2 AHA), Sunday-Monday, Jan. 3-4, at 5:05 pm ET each day,
The Road Trip: Air Force will begin a four-game, 10-day road trip with a pair of games at Niagara, Jan. 3-4. The Falcons will then bus around Lake Erie to Erie, Pa., for a two-game series with Mercyhurst, Jan. 8-9. Air Force will also have a four-game road trip later in the season when the Falcons play at Bentley, Jan. 30-31, and at Holy Cross, Feb. 5-6.

Scouting Niagara: Niagara is 1-5-2 overall this season and 0-4-2 in the AHA. Niagara's only win of the season came at home against Clarkson, 4-1, on Dec. 9. Last week, Niagara dropped a pair of games to Clarkson (6-3) and Robert Morris (6-1). Junior forward Ludwig Stenlund leads the team with seven points Walker Sommer, who played at Air Force in the 2017-18 and 2018-19 seasons, leads the team with four goals and is tied for second with six points. Stenlund and sophomore forward Ryan Naumovski also have six points. Sophomore goalie Chad Veltri has started four of the six games and has a 4.33 GAA and a .849 saves percentage. Freshman Mike Corson has started three games this season, including both last week, and had a 4.12 GAA and a .869 saves percentage.
Series vs. Niagara: Air Force and Niagara have played 78 times and the Purple Eagles hold a 39-33-6 lead in the series that began in 1996 when both teams were independents. As AHA rivals (since the 2010-11 season), AF has a 22-12-3 lead in the series. From 1999-2000 to 2005-06, both teams were in College Hockey America and played 31 times. Niagara held a 22-6-3 advantage. The teams met four times last season. At Niagara. NU won the first game, 4-3 in overtime. The second game ended in a 1-1 overtime tie, but Air Force earned the extra point in the standings by scoring in the 3-on-3 session. In the series at the Academy (Jan. 17-18), Air Force swept the series, 4-3 and 2-1. Air Force is 12-16-5 in Niagara. Prior to last season's loss and tie, Air Force had won four straight at Dwyer Arena. The last seven games have been decided by one goal or ended in a tie.
