Air Force Runs Past Lamar, 59-44

USAF ACADEMY, Colo. - Air Force men's basketball (2-1) defeated Lamar (0-4), 59-44, in a non-conference game Saturday afternoon at Clune Arena. Senior Chris Joyce scored 23 points to lead the Falcons, who pulled away in the second half.
Air Force led from the 8:32 mark on but only led by three at the half at 24-21 in a defensive battle. The points were tough to come by early on, as the first bucket was not scored until the 14:34 mark in the game on a basket by AJ Walker.
The game remained close early in the second half before Air Force took control of the game with a 7-0 run to go up 11 at 44-30 with 9:19 to go in the game. The Falcons later went on a 10-0 run to basically put the game away at 54-36 with 4:45 to play.
The Falcons held Lamar to 32 percent shooting on the night and allowed just one three-point basket on six attempts (16.7 percent). Avery Sullivan and Quinlan Bennett led the Cardinals with 10 points each.
Joyce tied his career-high for points, doing so for the second time this season and third time overall. The senior was 8 of 12 from the field and 3 of 5 from three-point range. Joyce also grabbed five rebounds and dished out three assists.
Senior forward Keaton Van Soelen scored 15 points to go with five rebounds and five assists. Van Soelen tied a career-best for assists and was one shy of his career mark for points.
Freshman guard Glen McClintock scored eight points to go with a team-high seven rebounds and also three assists in his first career start. Senior forward Ameka Akaya provided a spark off the bench with seven points and five rebounds. Akaya also had assists and two steals.
The Falcons shot 51 percent from the field (21-41) and were good on 43 percent from three point range (9 of 21). Head coach Joe Scott earned his 14th consecutive win at Clune Arena, a run that dates back to the 2003 season.
