Falcons face Colorado College in pair of games

Teams will meet in the Faceoff at Falcon Stadium, Feb. 17
This Week - Air Force (8-15-5, 8-11-5 AHA) steps away from conference play for a two-game non-conference series against Colorado College (8-16-2, 3-13-2 NCHC). The Falcons and Tigers play at the Broadmoor World Arena on Friday, Feb. 14, at 7:37 pm MT. The teams will then play in the Faceoff at Falcon Stadium, Monday, Feb. 17 at 5:05 pm at Falcon Stadium.
Faceoff at Falcon Stadium - Air Force and Colorado College will meet in the Faceoff at Falcon Stadium, presented by Centura Health, Monday Feb. 17, at 5 p.m. MT. This will be the first collegiate hockey game ever played in Falcon Stadium and the first outdoor varsity game ever for the Air Force hockey team.
Prior to the Faceoff at Falcon Stadium, Air Force and Colorado College will play on Friday, Feb. 14, at the Broadmoor World Arena. The game in Falcon Stadium will be the 78th meeting between the Falcons and Tigers. Air Force has won six of the last nine meetings in the series.

Scouting Colorado College - Colorado College is 8-16-2 overall and 3-12-2 in the NCHC. The Tigers went to overtime twice last week at home against St. Cloud State, falling 3-2 in overtime the first night and then earning a shootout win in a 2-2 overtime tie in game two. Senior Chris Wilkie leads the team with 18 goals and 26 points. Senior Nick Halloran leads the team with 15 assists and is second with 23 points. Freshman Matt Vernon has seen the most action in goal and has a .902 saves percentage and a 3.45 GAA.
Pikes Peak Trophy - The Pikes Peak Trophy, named in honor of the late John Matchefts, was jointly created in 2013 by Air Force and Colorado College and is awarded annually to the winner of the CC-Air Force game/series. Matchefts, who served stints as head coach for both Air Force (1974-85) and Colorado College (1966-71), is a member of the U.S. Hockey Hall of Fame. Matchefts led Air Force to 151 wins, the second most in school history.
Since the Trophy's inception in 2013, the Falcons have held it all but one year and have a 5-2 record vs. the Tigers. Air Force won the first two trophies with a 3-1 win over Colorado College at the World Arena in 2013 and a 3-1 win over the Tigers at the Cadet Ice Arena in 2014. In 2015, the teams played twice with each team winning 4-3 on home ice. As a result of the split, the Falcons retained the Trophy. In 2016, Air Force won the Trophy with a 6-3 win at World Arena. In 2017, Air Force defeated the Tigers, 6-3, at the Academy. Last season, CC won the trophy for the first time with a 6-1 win over Air Force at the Broadmoor World Arena.
