Falcons Wrap Up Day Two at MW Championships

AF had two new top-10 program best times
MINNEAPOLIS, Minn. – The Air Force Academy women's swimming and diving team wrapped up action on day two of the 2020 Mountain West Championships, Thursday evening, Feb. 20, at the Freeman Aquatic Center on the campus of the University of Minnesota. The Falcons competed in five events on day two.
AF saw a pair of new top-10 program best times throughout the day, led by sophomore Alexandra Armbruster in the 200 IM. She swam a prelim time of 2:05.44 to set the ninth-fastest in program history. She took 26th place in the event to get an alternate spot, but did not swim in the finals.
The other came in the first leg of the 400 medley relay, as junior Lexie DuChene swam the opening leg of the backstroke in 56.10 to up her time from the eighth fastest to the seventh-fastest all-time. As a team, the Falcons took 10th in that event.
On the diving board, AF competed on the 3M. The Falcons got a pair of divers into the consolation round after sophomore Cristin von Schlag took 12th in the prelims and freshman Gabby Peltier placed 16th. Then in the consolation round, von Schlag won the grouping to officially take ninth overall, while Peltier placed third in the consolation and 11th overall.
The final swimming events were the 500 freestyle and 50 freestyle. AF's top finisher in the 500 was freshman Gina Jenkins, who took 37th, while in the 50, freshman Scarlet Friend placed 34th.
As a team, AF has 161 points through eight events to remain in 10th place.
Action from Minnesota resumes tomorrow, Feb. 21, with six more events. Prelims will start at 10 a.m. MT followed by finals at 5:30 p.m. MT.
