Air Force Ramps Up Action on Day Three of MW Championships

The Falcons had two new top-5 best program times
MINNEAPOLIS, Minn. – The Air Force Academy women's swimming and diving team upped the action on day three of the 2020 Mountain West Championships, Friday evening, Feb. 21, at the Freeman Aquatic Center on the campus of the University of Minnesota. AF had three new program top-10 best times after competing in six events.
Starting in the 400 IM, sophomore Alexandra Armbruster continued her solid weekend, as she raced to a 4:25.13 in the 400 IM finals to set the fourth-fastest time in program history. In the C final, she took third to place 19th overall. Also in the C final, senior Jayden Glover placed 24th overall.
Then in the final event of the day, the 100 back, AF had two more top-10 best times as junior Lexie DuChene upped her time from yesterday to 55.93 to put her at fifth-fastest in program history. She took fourth in the C final and 20th overall. Then freshman Scarlet Friend raced to a 57.03 to take 24th overall and set the tenth-fastest time in AF history.
Air Force's highest finish on the day came in the 100 breast, as senior Heidi Schellin placed second in the B final and 10th overall after clocking in with a 1:03.00. In the C final of that event, sophomore Evelyn Johnson took second to place 18th overall.
AF's other event finalists came in the 100 fly, with sophomore Dia Gawronski and senior Esther Min competing in the C final. Gawronski placed 19th overall while Min took 21st. The final individual event was the 200 free, where AF's top finisher was freshman Sefilina Maile taking 33rd.
Finally, the opening event of the day was the 200 free relay. AF placed 10th overall there. As a team, Air Force has totaled 242 points and remains in 10th place.
The 2020 MW Championships conclude tomorrow, Feb. 22, with the final seven events. Action from Minnesota begins with prelims at 10 a.m. MT, and then finals at 5:30 p.m. MT.
