
Women's Swimming & Diving Concludes 2020 MW Championships

AF had a new school record and an All-Conference performer on the final day
MINNEAPOLIS, Minn. – The Air Force Academy women's swimming and diving team concluded action at the 2020 Mountain West Championships Saturday evening, Feb. 22, at the Freeman Aquatic Center on the campus of the University of Minnesota. On the final day of competition, AF had an All-Conference performer, three new top-10 times, and a new school record.
Starting with the school record on the platform dive, freshman Gabby Peltier smashed her old record with a 266.65 score in the consolation finals. That score was enough to win the consis and take ninth place overall in the competition. Also in the consolations was sophomore Cristin von Schlag, who took 15th overall.
In the 200 breast, senior captain Heidi Schellin became AF's lone All-Conference placer after she took eighth in the A final with a 2:16.88. Earlier in the day, Schellin became the fourth Falcon in the last six years to earn the MW Conference Senior Recognition Award. In the C final of the 200 breast, freshman Kimmy Woolfenden placed 18th overall while sophomore Evelyn Johnson took 22nd.
In the 200 back, AF had a trio of swimmers set new top-10 best times in program history. Sophomore Alexandra Armbruster had the best time as she clocked in with a 2:00.68 to set the fourth-fastest time in program history. In the C final she placed 17th overall. AF's highest finisher in the event was freshman Scarlet Friend, as she qualified for the B final and took 13th overall. Her prelim time of 2:01.55 was good for the sixth-quickest in Academy history. Finally, freshman Shea Burcham swam to a 2:02.74 in her prelim to set the eighth-fastest time in AF history.
Elsewhere, AF had three finalists in the C final of the 200 fly. Sophomore Dia Gawronski placed 2nd there to take 18th overall, just missing out on a top-10 AF time with a 2:04.53. Then sophomore Emily Bardak placed 22nd overall and freshman Gina Jenkins 24th.
In the 1650 free, Jenkins placed 18th while senior Jayden Glover took 19th in her final time swimming the event. AF's top finisher in the 100 free was freshman Sefilina Maile taking 30th. Finally, the final event of the Championships was the 400 free relay, in which AF took 10th. As a team, AF finished with 389.5 points to place 10th overall.
