Falcon Lacrosse Falls to Cleveland State in Overtime, 12-11

Freshman Ethan Grandolfo led Air Force lacrosse with four goals and an assist
DENVER, Colo. - Cleveland State edged by Air Force in overtime, 12-11, in the first game of Denver's Pioneer Face Off Classic, Saturday afternoon at Peter Barton Lacrosse Stadium. The 16th-ranked Falcons drop to 2-2 on the season as the Vikings tally their first win, they are now 1-3.
The Air Force offense was led by freshman attacker Ethan Grandolfo who registered four goals and an assist on the day for his first collegiate hat trick. Grandolfo led the team with six shots, five on goal. Senior co-team captain Trey Lervick registered his first hat trick of the season, eighth of his career, with a three-goal performance on five shots. Lervick also dished out an assist in the third quarter. Freshman teammate Brandon Dodd took six shots of his own, two of which were on frame, but the effort yielded zero goals. Dodd had a team-high two assists, he leads the Falcons with nine assists this season.
Other Air Force scorers were Quincy Peene with two goals, Brendan Crouse with one goal and one assist and Jake Thornally with one goal and one assist. Thornally has scored a goal in every game this season while Peene and Crouse have notched goals in three-of-four games. Matthew Schwartz, Matthew O'Rourk and Tommy Hellman registered an assist apiece.
Junior goalie Braden Host recorded 10 saves in 60:21 of action. Senior face off man Ryan Lynch was victorious at the face off dot for the second-straight game, winning 12-of-22 attempts with four ground balls. Vince Lombardi led the defense with a pair of caused turnovers while George Rittenhouse and Cole Grindberg scooped up four and three ground balls, respectively.
Tristan Hanna put Cleveland State on his shoulders with a seven-goal showing including the game-winner in overtime. Five other Vikings notched a goal apiece. The Vikings outshot Air Force, 38-32 (22-18), and picked up 33 ground balls to the Falcons' 27.
Air Force continues action tomorrow (Feb. 23) against St. Bonaventure in the third game of the Pioneer Face Off Classic. Face off is slated for 1:30 p.m. MT at Peter Barton Lacrosse Stadium. It is the first meeting between the Falcons and Bonnies.
