Air Force Claims 23 MW Scholar-Athlete Awards

A quartet of seniors claimed MW Scholar-Athlete medallions for the fourth-straight year.
COLORADO SPRING, Colo. – Twenty-three members of the Air Force track and field team were named Mountain West Scholar-Athletes this afternoon (July 28), as the conference office recognized a league-best 1023 student-athletes for excellence in the classroom during the 2019-20 academic year
The Mountain West Scholar-Athlete Award is one of the highest academic honors bestowed by the conference office. To be eligible for selection, student-athletes must have completed at least two academic terms at the member institution, while maintaining a cumulative grade-point-average of 3.5 or higher, and have participated in a varsity competition of a MW-sponsored sport.
Lindsey Blanks (3.91, operations research), Swathi Samuel (3.86, operations research), Justin Weber (3.85, geospatial science) and Marshall Wheeler (3.69, systems engineering) claimed Mountain West Scholar-Athlete honors for the fourth consecutive year. With the addition of these recently commissioned second lieutenants, the team has now accounted for 21 four-time MW Scholar-Athletes.
Juniors Hunter Boyer (3.73, aeronautical engineering), Scott Johnson (3.55, operations research), Mitch Lipe (3.71, aeronautical engineering) and Kathleen Medill (3.75, electrical engineering) collected their third-straight medallion from the conference office, while 10 sophomores – Garrett Blenkush (3.60, aeronautical engineering), Sarah Deresky (3.61, systems engineering), Mikayla Gallagher (3.89, aeronautical engineering/applied mathematics), Sean Geither (3.95, aeronautical engineering), Will Kitzhaber (3.51, legal studies), Kendra Middleton (3.61, aeronautical engineering), Michelle Roca (3.77, biology), Frank Rossi (3.95, applied mathematics), Erika Willis (3.78, biology) and Joseph Wittig (3.94, geospatial science) – captured their second.
Freshmen Ben Bi (3.71, aeronautical engineering), Aidan Boyle (3.64, undeclared), Ben Leicht (3.66, aeronautical engineering), Shannon Osoba (3.83, undeclared) and Katie Van Havel (3.59, undeclared) picked up their first MW Scholar-Athlete award following their initial collegiate season.
In addition, 15 Falcons captured a second MW Scholar-Athlete medallion in cross country, as the full program combined for 40 of the Academy's 67 total selections. Bi, Blanks, Blenkush, Boyer, Boyle, Deresky, Gallagher, Johnson, Kitzhaber, Leicht, Osoba, Samuel, Weber, Wheeler and Wittig joined sophomore Jenna Kill (3.83, applied mathematics) and freshman Meredith Hickman (3.72, undeclared) as MW Scholar-Athletes for cross country.
