LARAMIE, Wyo. – Air Force dropped the second meeting of a two-game Mountain West series against Wyoming, 59-46, Monday evening in Arena Auditorium. The Falcons drop to 3-8 overall with a 1-5 mark in the league.
Air Force, who jumped out to an early 9-2 lead in the first quarter, kept a tight game through the first half where they hit the halftime locker room trailing by one, 24-23. The Falcons were unable to keep the pace in the second half as they failed to get the ball into the hoop, shooting just 24-percent from the field in the second 20-minutes. Wyoming (6-5, 4-4 MW) shot 57-percent in the second half to create a scoring gap the Air Force could not close.
Air Force scoring leader Riley Snyder put up a team-high 13 points on 33-percent shooting from the field. The Falcons' leading rebounder, Emily Conroe, snagged nine rebounds and scored five points in the effort.
The Air Force bench was good for 25 points, nearly tripling the productivity from Wyoming's bench. Sophomore forward Nikki McDonald scored nine points off three three-pointers while Kaelin Immel and Audrey Gadison score eight apiece with a pair of deep balls each.
Junior point guard Briana Autrey-Thompson led the Air Force defense with three steals while also dishing four assists and snagging five rebounds. It was a noticeably uncharacteristic night for Autrey-Thompson who went 0-9 from the floor with just two points from the charity stripe.
Both squads collected 35 rebounds and had roughly the same amount of turnovers. A stale third quarter proved to be the difference as the Falcons mustered just eight points in the ensuing 10 minutes out of the halftime break.
Wyoming had three players score in the double-figures led by Dagny Davidsdottir's 16 points and 12 rebounds while shooting 75-percent from the field.
Next up, Air Force continues league action on the road with a two-game Mountain West series against San Diego State, January 22 and 24. Tip times are slated for 6 PT and 1 PT, respectively.
