Air Force Comes Up Short at Utah State, 61-55

LOGAN, Utah – Air Force dropped a 61-55 contest at Utah State, going 0-2 in the two-game league series, Saturday afternoon, in Logan, Utah. The Falcons drop to 2-5 with an 0-2 record in the Mountain West, while the Aggies improve to 4-4, 2-1 MW.
In similar fashion to the first meeting (Jan. 31), Air Force held the led for the majority of the game, leading by as much as seven points in the second quarter. The Aggies battled back with 13-point scoring run late in the third quarter to take a four-point lead heading into the fourth quarter. The Falcons' stale fourth-quarter shooting and foul calls allowed Utah State scoring opportunities from the free throw line where they hit 11-of-12 in the final quarter.
Riley Snyder led the Falcons in scoring for the second-straight game against Utah State, fifth of the season, dropping 18 points with four rebounds and an assist. Senior teammate Emily Conroe posted her second-straight double-double, 11th of her career, with 11 points and 13 rebounds, tying her season-best mark. Conroe also added three steals and a block to her stat line.
Juniors Briana Autrey-Thompson and Cierra Winters were good for eight points apiece and a combined eight steals, snagging six and two, respectively. The Falcons have had 10 or more steals in five-of-six games this season, led by Autrey-Thompson who averages just under five steals per game this season.
Freshman guard Kayla Pilson led the Falcons off the bench with four points while the bench as a unit combined for 10 points on the day. Sophomore forward Nikki McDonald snagged six boards while freshman teammate Dasha Macmillan snagged three boards and drained a three-ball for her daily total.
The Aggies had pair of players score in the double-digits led by Bre Mathews' 15 points and nine rebounds, and Jessica Chatman's 11 points with five rebounds. Utah State outshot Air Force 40-percent from the field to the Falcons' 25-percent. Air Force snagged more rebounds, 46-44, and scored 30 points off 21 Aggie turnovers.
Air Force returns to the Academy to host Boise State in a two-game series, on January 6 and 8. Tip-off is slated for 6 p.m. MT on Wednesday (Jan. 6), and 2:30 p.m. MT on Friday (Jan. 8). The Falcons will take the court with their sights set on ending a 14-game losing streak to the Broncos.
