Jake Hall Wins High Jump at Air Force Invitational

The Falcons accounted for a pair of top-five finishes in the high jump on Friday.
USAF ACADEMY, Colo. – Air Force junior Jake Hall captured the high jump title this afternoon (Jan. 22), as the track and field team continued action at the Air Force Invitational. Hall, who posted a season-best height of 6'8¾" to win the 14-jumper event, was one of four athletes to score for the Falcons during today's prelim-heavy outing at the Cadet Field House Indoor Track.
Hall led Air Force to a pair of scoring finishes in the high jump, as senior Addison Brown equaled his season-best clearance of 6'6¾" to tie for fifth.
The men also earned points from Tyler Gurchiek, who added a sixth-place finish in the heptathlon after concluding the two-day competition with a career-best 4702 points. The senior posted a personal-best time of 2:54.02 in the 1000-meter run, while matching his career best hurdles time of 8.78 and adding a season-best clearance of 13'5¼" in the pole vault.
The women received a scoring finish from junior Frankie Porambo, who cleared 11'5¾" to finish sixth in her season debut on the pole vault.
In addition to the finals that took place on the field, several qualifying races were also contested today, as the Falcons advanced five into tomorrow's finals.
Sophomore Cameron Harris clocked the day's fastest preliminary time in the 60-meter hurdles (career-best 8.10) to earn an automatic berth into the finals, while senior Zachary Dicken advanced to the finals of the 60-meter dash after matching his personal-best in the opening round (6.98) and improving it to 6.91 in the semifinals.
The Falcons advanced three runners into the finals of the two 400-meter events. Senior Luke Zuluaga and junior Sean Geither finished fourth (49.31) and eighth (49.49), respectively, in the men's 31-runner qualifying round, while junior Grace Proesch advanced to the women's final after clocking a time of 59.02 in her season debut of that distance to finish eighth in the 23-sprinter preliminary.
The Falcons return to the Cadet Field House tomorrow (Jan. 23), as they wrap up competition at the Air Force Invitational. Action begins with the men's shot put at 9:00 a.m. (MT), while the running events are slated to begin at noon. Air Force enters the final day of action with the men in fourth (17 points) and the women in a tie for ninth (five points).
