LUBBOCK, Texas – Highlighted by additions to the Academy's all-time standings from freshman Katie Thompson and junior Michelle Roca, several members of the Air Force track and field team kicked off action at the Texas Tech Invitational today (Jan. 29) in Lubbock. Facing off against 10 Power 5 programs, the Falcons captured four top-five finishes during Friday's action at the Sports Performance Center.
Thompson recorded a personal-best time of 8.87 during the preliminary round of the 60-meter hurdles to equal the fifth-fastest mark in Academy history, while Roca – the other half of the No. 5 tie on the hurdles standings – debuted in 10th on Air Force's all-time list in the 400-meter dash following a career-best 57.25 performance.
Thompson, who concluded her day with a fourth-place finish in the event finals (9.01), was one of three Falcons to earn fourth-place marks on the day. Senior Meghan Carbiener posted a season-best distance of 54'0½" to earn that placement in the weight throw, while junior Lashawn Taylor earned the same mark in the triple jump (47'9¼"). Junior Frank Rossi won his section of the 800-meter run, as the Falcons accounted for a pair of top-10 marks in that event. Freshman Cole Lindhorst clocked a time of 1:53.96 to finish ninth in the 19-runner race, while Rossi placed 10th behind a time of 1:54.05. Air Force earned three additional top-10 marks in the two weight throw competitions, as seniors Donna Borer and Addyson Smith finished seventh (season-best 49'9¾") and ninth (49'8¼"), respectively, in the women's event and sophomore Jaret Prete claimed a seventh-place finish in the men's throw following a 56'1¼" performance during his return to the ring.
