The senior improved her own Academy standard on the same track she set the old mark in 2018.
LUBBOCK, Texas – Senior Aubrey Ridgway broke her own Academy Record in the 200-meter dash this afternoon (Jan. 30), as the Air Force track and field team concluded competition at the Texas Tech Invitational in Lubbock.
Posting a time of 24.64 in her season debut at 200 meters, the senior broke the record she set on that same track as a freshman, while winning her heat and finishing 10th overall in a 26-runner field that included competitors from eight nationally-ranked teams.
In addition to her record-setting run at 200 meters, Ridgway also led off the 4x400-meter relay (junior Grace Proesch, freshman Zoe Iwu and junior Michelle Roca) that combined for a time of 3:53.24 – the 11th-fastest time in program history. The men's relay squad of junior Sean Geither, senior Luke Zuluaga, classmate Zachary Dicken and junior Frank Rossi also impacted the program's top-25 standings, as they combined for a time of 3:14.40 – the Academy's 16th-fastest time – in their first race together.
The Falcons' vertical jumpers accounted for four top-five finishes on Saturday, collecting at least one fifth-place finish in each of today's three events. Senior Addison Brown and junior Jake Hall recorded matching clearances of 6'7½" (season best for Brown) to tie for fifth in the men's high jump, while junior Ari Martinez earned the same placement in the women's event after recording a clearance of 5'5¼". Senior Greg Skage captured his own top-five finish in the pole vault, as he matched his own season-best height of 17'0¾" to finish fifth.
Fellow senior Kathleen Medill added a seventh-place finish in the women's high jump (5'5¼"), while classmate Mitch Lipe collected a top-10 placement in the pole vault (10th, 16'6¾"). Senior Addyson Smith posted a distance of 42'11¾" to finish sixth in the women's shot put, while sophomores Hayden Bullock and Jaret Prete finished seventh (49'9") and ninth (44'5½"), respectively, in the men's event. Freshman Katie Thompson completed the Falcons' list of top-10 finishers, as she recorded a distance of 17'9¾" to finish ninth in the long jump.
"I was very pleased with the way everyone competed," head coach Ralph Lindeman said. "It would have been easy to cower to the competition – of the other eight teams, six were from the Big 12 and two from the PAC-12 – yet our athletes held their own. We took some significant strides at this meet to being a good track team."
Members of the Air Force distance team open their delayed cross country season in Las Vegas on Monday (Feb. 1) morning, while the rest of the track and field team returns to action next Friday (Feb. 5) at the Wyoming Power Meet in Laramie.
