Hall used a career-best 6'11" to win the high jump and debut on the program's all-time list.
LARAMIE, Wyo. – Backed by three first-place finishes and two improvements to the program's top-10 standings, the Air Force track and field wrapped up competition at the Wyoming Power Meet this afternoon (Feb. 5) in Laramie.
Junior Jake Hall checked both boxes on Friday, as he recorded the ninth-best clearance in Air Force history (6'11") to win the high jump – and lead Air Force to three of the top-four finishes in the 13-jumper event. Senior Addison Brown posted a career-best clearance of 6'9¾" to place second, while freshman Philip Hundl finished fourth with a height of 6'4¾".
Hall was one-half of Air Force's sweep of the men's vertical jump titles at the Power Meet, as senior Mitch Lipe cleared 17'3" to win the pole vault by nearly one foot. Like the high jump, the Academy pole vaulters also accounted for three of the top-four clearances, as junior Ethan Gardner and freshman Caiden Macktinger tied for third behind matching clearances of 15'9¼" (career-best for Macktinger).
Senior Addyson Smith continued to improve her standing on the Academy's weight throw standings, as she registered a career-best clearance of 53'9¼" to take over full control of seventh on the program's top 10 list – adding an inch to the previous No. 7 mark she had shared since the Air Force Holiday Open.
Smith, who finished fifth in that event, was one of six women to earn top-five finishes in the field events. Senior Kathleen Medill and junior Ari Martinez tied for second in the high jump with matching marks of 5'6", while freshman Katie Thompson placed third in the long jump with a distance of 18'6". Junior Frankie Porambo earned that same placement in the pole vault, as she and freshman Lucy Prakel posted matching heights of 11'5¾" to finish third and fifth, respectively, based on attempts.
The men registered four additional top-five finishes on Friday, with junior LaShawn Taylor collecting a pair – fourth in the triple jump (48'5¼"), fifth in the long jump (season debut 22'7"). Sophomore Hayden Bullock earned a runner-up finish in the shot put after posting a career-best distance of 52'9½", while classmate Jaret Prete recorded a toss of 55'5¾" to place fifth in the weight throw.
A very limited number of running events were contested today at the Lebar-Hager Track, but Thompson picked up a first-place finish in the 55-meter hurdles to round out the Falcons' list of victors, as she posted a time of 8.36 in her first hurdles race at that distance.
Air Force returns to action next weekend, when the squad splits for the first time this season. Several Falcons will travel Ames, Iowa, for the Iowa State Classic, while the remainder of the team will head to the UCCS Open in Colorado Springs.
