Falcons to meet Sacred Heart, Jan. 6

This Week: Air Force (0-5-1, 0-5-1 AHA) faces the Sacred Heart Pioneers (1-3-0, 1-1-0 AHA) in a single, neutral site game on Wednesday, Jan. 6, at 3:05 pm ET at Dwyer Arena in Niagara, N.Y. The game was originally scheduled at the Academy, Dec. 18-19. The second game of the series will be made up at a later date.
The Road Trip: Air Force is in the midst of a five-game, 10-day road trip. Following the series at Niagara, Jan. 3-4, the Falcons will face Sacred Heart on Jan. 6. The Falcons will then bus around Lake Erie to Erie, Pa., for a two-game series with Mercyhurst, Jan. 8-9. Air Force will also have a four-game road trip later in the season when the Falcons play at Bentley, Jan. 30-31, and at Holy Cross, Feb. 5-6.

Scouting Sacred Heart: Sacred Heart is 1-3-0 overall and 1-1-0 in the AHA. SHU split a two-game series at Holy Cross Dec. 4-6, and then was swept by 13th-ranked Quinnipiac, Dec. 14-15. The Pioneers have not played since that Dec. 15th game. A series that was scheduled against Army, Jan. 2-3. Junior forward Ryan Steele and sophomore Braeden Tuck lead the team with four points each. Junior Josh Benson has started three of the four games in goal and has a .883 saves percentage and a 3.86 GAA,

Last season, the teams played four times and Sacred Heart won three of the games, including both in Colorado Springs. SHU is 6-1-1 against Air Force in the last eight. The teams have played at a neutral site five times and four went into overtime with all five being one-goal games. Each team has won two with one tie: UConn Tournament in 2003 (2-2 ot tie), RPI Tournament in 2004 (3-2 ot W), AHA Semifinals in 2007 (5-4 ot W), AHA Semifinals in 2010 (2-1 L) and at Quinnipiac in 2018 (2-1 ot L).
