This Week: Air Force (0-6-1, 0-6-1 AHA) faces Mercyhurst (2-5-1, 1-2-1 AHA) in an Atlantic Hockey series, Friday-Saturday, Jan. 8-9, in Erie, Pa. Friday's game starts at 5:05 pm ET while Saturday's opening faceoff is at 3:05 pm ET.
The Road Trip: Air Force is in the midst of a five-game, 10-day road trip. Following the series at Niagara, Jan. 3-4, and the single game against Sacred Heart on Jan. 6, the Falcons will face Mercyhurst, Jan. 8-9. Air Force will also have a four-game road trip later in the season when the Falcons play at Bentley, Jan. 30-31, and at Holy Cross, Feb. 5-6.

Scouting Mercyhurst: Mercyhurst is 2-5-1 overall and 1-2-1 in the AHA. The Lakers were swept last week by Canisius, falling 3-2 in Buffalo and 3-0 in Erie. Prior to that series, Mercyhurst took five of six points from Niagara with a 7-4 win at Niagara and a shutout win (3-3 OT) in Erie. The season opened with a 2-1 win at Bowling Green a team currently ranked seventh in the nation. Freshman Carson Briere leads the team with nine points (3-6-9) and is second in the league in points by a rookie. Fellow freshman Dante Sheriff has six points (2-4-6). Senior Hank Johnson has started all eight games and has a 3.22 GAA and a .908 saves percentage.
Series vs. Mercyhurst: Air Force leads the all-time series with Mercyhurst, 23-15-5. The series began in 2007 with the teams both being members of Atlantic Hockey. The teams played four times last season and the Falcons took 11 of the 12 points with a 3-0-1 record. The Falcons swept a two-game quarterfinal series at the Academy. Air Force is 8-2-2 in the last 12 against the Lakers. The teams have played 18 games in Erie and the Falcons hold a 10-5-3 lead at the Mercyhurst Ice Center. The teams have met five times in the playoffs and the Falcons have won all five, the 2008 championship game in double overtime (5-4), the 2009 championship game (2-0) the 2012 semifinals (5-2) and twice in the 2020 AHA Quarterfinals at USAFA.
