USAFA, Colo. - At the conclusion of Friday's 0-0 draw with Utah State, the Falcons, in spite of not being able to find a score, seemingly put together one of their finest performances of the season. On Sunday, that same momentum maintained, as Air Force snagged three crucial points in a 2-1 overtime win over Boise State.
"We picked up a Sunday win against a very good Boise team," said head coach Larry Friend. "I was so impressed with our effort and discipline throughout regulation and into overtime."
Faith Lee's score in the 97th minute proved to be the difference on the afternoon, as the junior knotted her fifth goal of the season. Lee totaled five shots on the day, with her last being the exclamation. Cassi Bych, making her sixth start of the season and her fourth in five matches, found the back of the net for the first time in her Air Force career in 62nd minute. Bych was relentless on the offensive end, managing five shots and three on goal.
Abbigail Copp (2) and Cam Karras (1) also provided shots on goal for Air Force.
The Air Force back line has been one of the team's most consistent groups, as freshmen Kendall Ahern, Hannah Johnson, and Stella Rubidoux played all 97 minutes. Sunday marked the fifth match in 2021 in which the Falcons have played into overtime, and in those matches the Falcons are 3-0-2. The win catapults the Falcons to 7th in the Mountain West standings, one point outside of a position in the Mountain West Conference tournament.
"The team truly worked together," said Friend. "They solved problems, and found a way to win."
Air Force's remaining schedule will take place on the road, as the Falcons will next travel to San Diego State on Thursday, October 21 to play the Aztecs.
